Delivery System Overview

5 Steps for implementing the Parallel Component Learning System

  • Step1: After clearly and precisely defining the stroke to be practiced, feed 5 balls to determine current level of accuracy and power.

  • Step2: Identify Primary Component to be practiced.

  • Step3: Feed 5 balls, practicing component without regard to outcome.

  • Step4: Feed 5 balls using say-what-you-see. Bounce-hit, through-hit etc. This is the application of sensory overlapping and enhances visual tracking.

  • Step5: Feed 5 balls using “imagineering” where the student visualizes the outcome.

Then measure the outcome against the level of accuracy and power in step 1. And repeat from whatever step requires more practice. Proceed through steps 3 to 5 twice before changing the Primary Component.

PCLS and Games

With respect to games, apply the “3 principles” ( or any other component or sub-component) by modifying scoring to reward for execution of process as well as outcome. Ie give bonus points for saying “bounce-hit” or starting off a rally by SWTFCTTDYWTG.

By adopting this contemporary teaching system, the PCLS will enable students of the game to reach their individual potential and gain maximum satisfaction from their efforts.

The Sportsmax System Tennis Method is designed to deliver individually tailored lessons to student in a group environment. So not only will students child receive the socialization benefits of being in a group lesson but will be able to progress at a far greater rate thus saving them time and money.

Application of the "3 Principles" to the Sportsmax "Parallel Component Learning System" will deliver outcomes 3 to 5 times quicker than conventional stroke correction and analysis coaching systems.

Sensory overlapping and visual tracking techniques are the unifying keys of the methodology. This allows the coach or student to break hand / eye and feet / eye skills into components, which are practiced in isolation and affixed to muscle memory before being reintroduced to stroke production.

To deliver the system the coach will need to know the "3 Principles" as well as the "Primary Components" to stroke production. Then, after carefully defining the stroke you are practicing, follow the "5 Steps" and successful coaching will be guranteed.

The "3 Principles"

  1. Footwork Principle :
First step to the ball with the foot closest to the direction you want to go. (FSTTBWTFCTTDYWTG)

  2. Stroke Principle :
Have your racquet ready to co come forward before the ball bounce; as racquet preparation is a function of ball speed, depth and height - " racquet back early" is meaningless. (RRTCFBTBB)

  3. Say-what-you-see Principle :
This visual traking skill development technique is undoubtedly the most important skill a coach can pass on to his or her students. When teaching or learning this skill the student is encouraged to track the ball visually, and verbally "cue" the ball as it is thrown, bounced or hit.

Primary Components

  1. Footwork : Start with FSWTFCTTDYWTG
  2. Preparation : RRTCFBTBB
  3. Swing path to contact .
  4. Contact point.
  5. Follow through.
